A Sydney woman named Carolyn has become the first person in Australia laid to rest in a coffin formed from fungi. The Guardian and the Sydney Morning Herald shared the news on September 7.
The coffin is made from mycelium, the root-like network of fungi. It decomposes quickly and returns nutrients to the soil. People in the funeral industry observe that more Australians are currently considering greener burial choices, beyond standard graves or cremation.
