Everton Blair Jr. came out ahead in the runoff race in Georgia's 13th Congressional District. Blair defeated candidate Marcye Scott in the runoff contest for the House of Representatives post. Marcye Scott is the daughter of the former Representative David Scott.
Scott failed in her attempt to finish her father's unexpired term in the House of Representatives. She lost the runoff matchup to Blair. With this decisive outcome in Georgia's 13th Congressional District, Everton Blair Jr. is set to be the second Black openly gay official sent to Congress.
