The incident took place on 24 August 2026 during the Test match in Colombo. During the fixture, Jaiswal struck Fernando with his head while on the pitch, prompting disciplinary review from match officials. Both Cricinfo and the ICC verified the fines issued to the players for poor conduct.
Following the ruling, Jaiswal accepted the sanction but defended his actions. He stated that he acted appropriately during the on-field clash. Speaking to Indulge Express, he emphasised that India would continue to battle on in their following games despite the recent clash.
